Technicolour parks and forests

With 29 national parks and more than 4,000 nature reserves and autumn is the best time to head out and explore them, as they burst into bright shades of red, orange and yellow. It's the perfect climate for hiking and you can still camp overnight without the need for any high-tech sub-zero gear. Look out for mushrooms and berries on your walks too. Don't rule out taking a dip in one of the country's many celebrated swimming spots either. The water can be warmer than the air during the autumn after heating up throughout the summer.

Fjord Cruise Ride

Norway's fjords are its cruising claim to fame. Unlike in Alaska, you're less likely to see glaciers and interesting wildlife and more likely to turn your gaze (or camera) to dramatic waterfalls tumbling down verdant cliffs and mountainsides. Outdoors enthusiasts can get closer with kayaking or hiking trips. Smaller villages along the fjords function more as transit hubs for excursions out to scenic vistas, while Norway's cities give the opportunity to explore excellent museums on the country's maritime history and local culture, as well as shop for its well-regarded woolen products or unusual food items. (Brown cheese-flavored chocolate, anyone?)

Lapland- North of Finland

The Magical, Mythical Lapland !!

Finnish Lapland is as close as reality gets to those who dream of a winter wonderland. Contrasts are a key factor in the allure of Lapland where 24-hour sunlight in the summer replaces the dark winter days. The hustle and bustle of towns and ski resorts is just minutes away from the peace and quiet of the wild wilderness.
